Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard and Sons was a premier English cabinetmaking and upholstery firm founded in London in the early nineteenth century. Renowned for their high-quality easy chairs and sofas, the company held royal warrants and became famous for introducing patented comfort features, such as deep coil spring construction and feather-down seat cushions.

These armchairs were constructed using beechwood or mahogany frames, heavy iron coil springs, horsehair filling, and layered down or feather cushions. The front legs were typically carved from mahogany or walnut and finished with solid brass castors.

Authentic pieces usually feature a stamped makers name and number on the inner rear leg, as well as branded brass castors marked with the company name. Original upholstery often features monogrammed cotton ticking carrying the Howard and Sons logo.

A period armchair serves as a focal accent piece when placed alongside contemporary minimalist sofas or structured side tables. Mixing historical upholstery textures with clean modern lines creates visual contrast within living rooms, reading nooks, or bedrooms.

Fabric upholstery should be vacuumed gently using a soft brush attachment and spot-cleaned using professional textile products. Turned wooden legs benefit from periodic application of natural beeswax, while brass castors should be kept free of debris to prevent scratching floors.
