A Very Good Quality Mid 19th Century French Giltwood And Gesso Rectangular Overmantle Mirror, Having Sectioned Marginal Frame With Superbly Elegant Foliate And Scrolling Carved Decoration Throughout, Enclosing Apparently Original Mirror Plates, Surmounted By Arched Top With Superbly Carved Shell.Although relatively typical of a French 19th century overmantle mirror in terms of overall design this particular example has many of its own outstanding features and is of very good quality indeed. It also has great presence and would really enhance absolutely any room whatsoever.Some of those features touched on above include the excellent carved decoration which has much more depth and presence than the majority we have seen, including the wonderful shell.It also retains what appear to be its original mirror plates, they are certainly very old and have a small amount of of silvering and pitting as one would expect.
