FAQs

Neoclassical mirrors from the 19th century draw heavily on classical Greek and Roman motifs, typically featuring symmetrical designs, urns, swags, wreaths, and gilded wooden frames.

Giltwood frames are traditionally crafted from carved timber, such as pine or gesso-coated hardwoods, finished with a layer of fine gold leaf applied over a bole base.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit hand-carved detailing, historical gesso cracking, oxidation on the original mercury or silvered glass plate, and period-appropriate joinery on the reverse.

Pairing an ornate gilded mirror with minimalist furniture creates a striking focal point, adding warmth and historical texture to modern neutral spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical cleaning agents, abrasive materials, and direct moisture to protect the fragile gold leaf and aged mirror plate.
