Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency giltwood and gesso wall mirror displays a grand classical aesthetic through a rich gold finish, bevelled glass, and detailed decoration. The upper section comprises a projecting cornice set with spherical ball ornaments above an architectural frieze panel depicting a pastoral scene with figures and animals. Fluted pilasters flank the rectangular glass plate, terminating in classical mask reliefs and decorated capitals. The frame exhibits minor surface wear appropriate for a genuine antique piece of this period. Measuring 95 cm in height by 61 cm in width, the wall hanging is well-suited for display above a mantelpiece in a traditional living room, hallway, or dining space.

FAQs

Regency mirrors, produced in Britain between roughly 1811 and 1830, are characterised by neoclassical architectural forms, symmetry, gilded frames, and classical decorative elements such as pilasters, ball cornices, and relief friezes.

These frames were typically constructed from pine or lime wood, layered with gesso, and decorated using water gilding with gold leaf, paired with silvered mirror glass plates.

Authentic pieces feature period construction techniques on the reverse, such as pine backboards, natural wear to the gold leaf showing red or grey bole beneath, and minor oxidisation on early glass plates.

Place the mirror above a fireplace mantelboard, modern console table, or dining room sideboard to serve as a dramatic architectural focal point that reflects light across the room.

Dust the frame lightly using a soft dry brush or feather duster; never apply liquid cleansers or damp cloths directly to water-gilded gesso surfaces as moisture causes gilding to dissolve.
