A fabulous 19th Century giltwood overmantel mirror of grand proportions with original glass and back, finely hand carved and of exceptional quality. The mirror glass plate of shaped, rectangular form is set within a gorgeous moulded and fluted giltwood frame with pilaster columnar detail, spiral twist, beaded row, flowerhead and scrolling foliate motifs throughout. Surmounted with curved architectural pediment with elegant lambs tongue and foliate motif detail above a deep frieze with an intricate arrangement of centred cabochon flanked with trailing foliate, flowerheads and scrolls. Supported on shaped platform base with further arrangements of richly scrolling acanthus leaves and delicate flowerhead motifs, beautifully carved in high relief.
