FAQs

Maintain antique mirrors by avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on both the glass and the frame, keeping them out of direct sunlight, and dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth.

A circular mirror acts as a focal point when hung above a mantelpiece or console table, contrasting clean modern lines with traditional craftsmanship and adding depth to a room.

Authentication involves examining the joinery, the characteristics of the glass plate such as foxing or distortion, and the composition of the gesso and base timber layers under magnification.

Regency frames were typically constructed from gessoed and carved timber, often incorporating gilded elements, hand-applied finishes, and specialised silvered glass plates.

The Regency style, spanning the early 19th century, draws heavily on classical Greek and Roman motifs, characterised by symmetry, refined proportions, and sophisticated ornamentation.
