This Regency style wall mirror dates from the 1920 period. The piece consists of a circular ebonised wood frame finished in a deep black tone, paired with a convex glass plate that offers a wide, distorted reflection of the room. The moulded frame incorporates reeded outer details alongside a ring of silver ball spherule accents spaced evenly around the perimeter. The visible construction reveals a dark wooden surround complemented by metallic spheres and polished glass, showing standard signs of age across the ebonised finish and hardware. The entire wall mirror measures 47 cm high by 47 cm wide. Ideal for domestic placement above the mantel in a living room, hallway or study, this accessory adds architectural interest and period character to interior spaces. The dark circular profile contrasts effectively against light or panelled walls, serving as a striking focal point while distributing light across the surrounding area. The traditional design suits period properties as well as contemporary settings seeking a touch of classic Regency style through simple, effective wall decoration.

Convex mirrors feature a curved lens outwards to offer an expanded field of view. They gained immense popularity during the Georgian and Regency periods, serving both a decorative purpose and allowing household staff to observe a room discreetly.

Traditional construction involves a carved or turned timber frame treated with an ebonising stain or lacquer to imitate ebony wood. The glass plate is silvered, and decorative accents such as spherules are typically made of painted wood or cast metal.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit signs of hand-carved joinery on the wooden backing, original silvering oxidation or foxing on the glass, and natural wear or fine crazing to the ebonised finish.

Place a convex mirror directly above a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a hallway gallery wall. The curved reflection distorts light and space, creating a dynamic architectural focal point in contemporary settings.

Dust the ebonised frame using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water and solvent-based cleaners that can damage the finish. Clean the glass carefully with a specialized glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than directly onto the mirror surface.
