Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular wood-working traditions where spindles and legs were wedged directly into a solid sculpted seat.

Authentic chairs typically feature a combination of native timbers, utilising resilient woods like yew, elm for the carved seat, and ash or beech for the bentwood bows and spindles.

Authentication involves examining traditional joinery methods, tool marks, timber shrinkage, patination, and construction characteristics specific to 18th-century regional workshops.

Pairing the chair with a minimalist modern desk or using it as an accent piece in a neutral room highlights its sculptural timber grain and historical silhouette.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
