Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George IV period Windsor armchair dates from around 1820 and is made from yew and elm in a warm brown colour with a rich patina. The chair has a stick-back hoop top rail featuring a decorative central pierced splat, shaped arms with turned supports, a grainy elm saddle-shaped seat, and turned legs joined by an H-stretcher. The visible details include ball-shaped feet, slender vertical spindle turnings, and subtle knots within the natural timber grain. The piece measures 113 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. It is suitable for use as a desk chair in a study, as an occasional seat in a living room, or placed around a dining table in an English country house setting.

A George IV Windsor chair dates from the 1820s and features a solid timber construction with steam-bent hooped backs, turned spindles, shaped saddle seats, and turned legs directly socketed into the seat board.

Traditional Windsor chairs utilised regional English timbers, predominantly elm for the thick, solid saddle seat due to its cross-grained strength, along with yew, ash, or beech for the steam-bent back hoops, turned spindles, and stretcher rails.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-cut joinery, wedged tenons visible on the top of the seat board, natural timber shrinkage over time, asymmetrical hand-turned spindles, and deep patination around high-wear areas such as armrests and feet.

A single Windsor armchair functions well as a focal accent piece in a contemporary hallway, paired alongside a modern desk in a home office, or integrated into an eclectic dining arrangement alongside mid-century or modern wooden seating.

Preserve the finish by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a high-quality natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources like radiators to prevent wood shrinkage and cracking.
