Large Scale 19th Century English Regency Giltwood Overmantel Mirror.

This mirror is a lovely example of a regency overmantel. Originally designed to sit over the top of a chimneypiece. It has complex mouldings to the two pilasters and the horizontal top section, all incorporating reeded motifs of varying heights and scales. The two top corners also have finely carved and applied floral paterae. It is of large and impressive scale and its clean lines seem remarkably modern in many ways.

The best regency designers have been described by modern design historians as modernists in their outlook and this piece is a perfect example of that sort of thinking, creating a piece that, though antique, is almost timeless.

This large nineteenth-century English Regency overmantel mirror uses giltwood, gesso and glass with a bright gold finish. The architectural rectangular piece incorporates reeded pilasters with complex vertical mouldings, horizontal reeded mouldings on the top section, and finely carved floral paterae on the two top corner blocks. Two metal hanging loops are visible at the upper rear edge. The frame measures 137 cm high, 135 cm wide, and 10 cm deep.
