Named after the French king who reigned from 1830 to 1848, Louis Philippe mirrors are defined by rounded upper corners, flat bottom corners, and simple curved frames finished in gold leaf or dark lacquer.

Frames were traditionally constructed from pine or lime wood cores, covered in gesso plaster, layered with red bole clay, and gilded with gold leaf around silvered or mercury glass plates.

Authentic pieces show signs of age such as silver oxidisation or foxing on the glass, visible red bole underneath worn gold leaf, and hand-planked backboards attached with historic fittings.
