Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis Philippe mirrors originated in France during the reign of King Louis Philippe from 1830 to 1848. They are characterised by clean architectural lines, rounded upper corners, an arched crest, and understated moulding such as beaded inner borders.

These frames were constructed from pine or oak coated with gesso and layered with thin sheets of gold leaf. The glass mirror plate was typically made using mercury or silvered backing set flush within the carved wooden frame.

Authentic period mirrors feature original paneled pine backboards, rounded upper shoulders with square bottom corners, and visible red or grey bole beneath areas of naturally worn gilding.

A tall Louis Philippe mirror works effectively when positioned above a fireplace mantelpiece or placed leaning directly against a neutral wall. The gilded wood creates a warm focal point that complements both traditional and modern aesthetic schemes.

Dust the frame regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or feather duster without applying liquid cleaners. Water and chemical solvents can dissolve the delicate gesso ground beneath the original gold leaf.
