This large nineteenth-century French Louis Philippe wall mirror has a wooden frame covered in gesso and gold leaf with rounded upper corners, foliate carvings at the corners, floral motifs, and a beaded inner moulding. The original old mercury glass plate has a panelled back, and the gold finish is rubbed in places with visible signs of age. The frame includes carved roses and ornamental surface detailing along the outer edges. Measuring 150 cm high, 101 cm wide, and 6 cm deep, this piece is proportioned for placement above a mantel in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The giltwood surface and traditional French styling complement a variety of interior settings, functioning as both a decorative focal point and a practical reflective surface.
