Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian button back armchairs are characterised by deep tufted cushioning on the backrest, fixed with fabric-covered buttons to hold internal filling in place. Popular throughout the 19th century, these chairs feature curved silhouettes, fully padded upholstery, and turned wooden legs fitted with brass castors.

Traditional 19th-century armchairs were constructed around solid hardwood frames, commonly oak, walnut, or mahogany. Internal stuffing comprised natural materials such as horsehair, coir fibre, and steel coil springs, covered in woven damask, velvet, or wool upholstery.

Authentic Victorian armchairs feature hand-turned hardwood legs, original metal or brass castors, and hand-tied coil springs within the base frame. Stamped makers marks or brass castors, alongside hand-stitched linen linings on the underside, further indicate authentic 19th-century construction.

A Victorian armchair serves as an accent piece when positioned alongside contemporary sofas or modern floor lamps. Combining patterned period upholstery with neutral walls creates a balanced visual contrast within a living room or study.

Fabric upholstery should be vacuumed regularly using a soft brush attachment and kept out of direct sunlight to avoid colour fading. Wooden legs require cleaning with a microfibre cloth followed by occasional applications of natural beeswax polish.
