Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian spoon-back armchair stands as a classic example of nineteenth-century seating, constructed from warm brown walnut with a polished finish. The high, spoon-shaped back features button tufting and pale neutral upholstery, edged with a decorative braided trim that mirrors the padded armrests. Elaborate carved scroll arms sweep forward to join the serpentine seat rail, while the front cabriole legs terminate in small castors for ease of movement. The generous proportions measure 102.5 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 84 cm deep, providing an accommodating seat for daily relaxation. In a modern interior, this piece serves well as a statement armchair in a traditional living room, a reading chair in a study, or an elegant occasional seat in a bedroom.

FAQs

A Victorian spoon-back chair features a curved, concave backboard resembling the bowl of a spoon, popularized during the mid-19th century as part of the Rococo Revival movement.

Frames were commonly carved from solid woods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, paired with coil-sprung seats, horsehair padding, and hand-tacked textile upholstery.

Authentic examples feature hand-carved scrollwork, original castor wheels attached to cabriole or turned legs, and mortise and tenon frame joinery typical of 19th-century craftsmanship.

Position the piece as an accent chair in a reading corner or bedroom, balancing its detailed woodwork against minimalist architecture or neutral soft furnishings.

Clean wooden surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and apply natural beeswax regularly, while keeping upholstered areas vacuumed gently and away from direct sunlight.
