Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III open armchairs, often influenced by French Louis XV and Louis XVI designs, feature exposed carved wooden frames with gilt leaf finishes, padded open armrests, and oval or shield-shaped upholstered backs characteristic of late 18th-century English craftsmanship.

Carved beechwood or pine formed the structural frame, coated in gesso before applying gold leaf via water or oil gilding, with seat cushions padded using traditional horsehair and natural fibre webbing.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved wooden joinery, natural wear to gilding that reveals the underlying clay bole layer, and distinct hand-carved floral or scroll motifs along the legs and cresting.

Positioning a pair of gilded armchairs beside contemporary minimalist sofas or flanking a chimney breast creates a balanced contrast between classical elegance and modern architectural lines.

Giltwood surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft camel-hair brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, water, or damp cloths that dissolve historic gesso layers and damage original gold leafing.
