Sopwiths of Newcastle were joiners, cabinet and chair makers (1787–1935) Thomas Sopwith Senior, Jacob Sopwith and Thomas Sopwith the engineer born in 1803. They had a premises on the Royal Arcade in the 1830s where they advertised ‘Furniture Manufactured from Original Designs'' and later in 1863 became Sopwith & Co and had premises on Northumberland Street.
