Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Deep diamond buttoning across the back and seat: traditional hand tufting.
Creasing and rubbing on the arm facings: natural surface wear from long use.
Tapered square front legs with fluted faces: early twentieth-century Georgian revival style.
Individually tacked brass studs along the edges: hand-applied decorative trim.
Hand-coloured finish on the leather: subtle variegated shading.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This early 20th century Georgian style armchair operates as a leather hall porter chair with a barrel back configuration. Hand dyed olive green leather covers the entire frame, accented by extensive deep buttoning across the wrap-around back and seat. Rows of individual brass studs trace the contours along the roll-over arms and down the front facing edge. The wooden frame stands on fluted front legs and tapered dark supports, displaying a surface marked by a gentle ageing patina without any tears or splits, alongside intact buttoning throughout. Measuring 109.5 cm high, 88 cm wide, and 82.5 cm deep, this seating option fits comfortably into a traditional study, reading room, or formal hallway. The enclosed wrap-around back offers a sheltered seating experience reminiscent of historical porter designs, while the sturdy construction supports regular domestic use in a home setting today.

A hall porter chair traditionally featured a high back and side wings designed to shield hall porters from cold draughts near entrance doors in grand historic residences.

Traditional construction incorporates a solid timber frame upholstered in full-grain leather, secured with hand-tacked brass studs and filled with deep-buttoned padding.

Key design features include capitonne deep buttoning, high winged backs, rolled armrests with brass studded borders, and square tapered wooden legs.

Position the chair in a study, library, or entrance hall alongside a low side table and focused lighting to create a dedicated reading area or focal point.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply a specialist leather wax conditioner periodically, and keep the piece positioned away from direct heat sources to prevent drying.
