This pair of Louis XV style armchairs originates from 1860, crafted from giltwood and beechwood with a gold finish and green patterned fabric upholstery. The upholstered backs and large stuffover seats feature padded elbow rests, while the top rails display a carved foliate design alongside Rococo styled shaped arms. The carved aprons sit above cabriole legs at the back and front, all terminating in raised toes, with minor blemishing visible on the gilding due to age. Each armchair measures 98 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. These seating pieces integrate into a traditional living room, drawing room, or study as statement chairs alongside a fireplace, console table, or writing desk.

Louis XV style armchairs, commonly termed fauteuils, are defined by fluid curves, rococo carved foliage, cabriole legs, and open padded armrests.

Traditional giltwood furniture utilizes hand-carved hardwood frames covered in layers of gesso, which are then gilded with thin gold leaf and paired with woven textiles.

Authentic period chairs often display hand-carved joinery marks, natural surface wear revealing underlying gesso or red bole, and period-appropriate wood carving variations.

Positioning a pair of carved giltwood armchairs alongside minimalist modern sofas provides a structured focal point that balances classical detail with clean contemporary lines.

Dust giltwood frames delicately with a soft microfibre cloth without liquid polish, and vacuum textile upholstery carefully using a low-suction brush attachment.
