Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This nineteenth-century French slipper chair follows a traditional chateau style. The piece has a pale blue silk damask upholstery featuring a small floral pattern, paired with a long bullion fringe skirt and a hanging tassel on the scrolled backrest. The internal construction includes fabric, wood, and trim materials. The fabric has marks, and the item is sold for upholstery. Dimensions measure 75 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 69 cm deep. Suitable placement includes a bedroom or fireside setting as an occasional seat. The low-profile design sits directly on the floor with its heavy fringe skirt concealing the support structure. The scrolled back provides an upright support contour while maintaining a compact footprint in an interior layout.

Originating in 18th-century France as a chauffeuse, the slipper chair was designed low to the ground to enable ladies to sit comfortably while wearing corsets and having footwear or stockings fitted by attendants.

Traditional French slipper chairs feature solid hardwood inner frames, coil-sprung seats, natural horsehair padding, and outer upholstery in woven fabrics like silk damask or brocade embellished with passementerie trim.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved concealed timber framing, hand-tied coil springs, traditional webbed under-seating, and period-appropriate hand-stitched upholstery or hand-knotted fringe detailing.

Position the chair in a master bedroom dressing area, beside a fireplace, or in a spacious hallway to provide low-profile seating that adds texture and historical contrast to contemporary decor.

Keep upholstered seating away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, vacuum gently using a soft brush attachment, and spot clean delicate textiles using specialist dry-cleaning methods.
