This rare long set of fourteen Victorian dining room chairs comprises twelve side chairs and two carvers with oak frames. The part-upholstered backs and generous over-stuffed seats are finished in olive green leather, complemented by brass stud trim along the edges. Details include fluted uprights, scrolled sides, shaped low rails, turned and acanthus carved tapering front legs fitted with brass and brown porcelain castors, outswept rear supports, and shaped arms on the carvers. The carver chairs measure 90 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, while the side chairs measure 84 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 63 cm deep. Suitable for large dining spaces and formal entertaining areas, this suite provides substantial seating around a generous dining table in a traditional English country house interior. The durable leather upholstery and robust oak construction offer practical comfort for daily family meals as well as dinner parties.

Victorian oak dining chair sets were produced during the nineteenth century, often crafted from solid English oak with detailed turnings, scrollwork, and sturdy joinery. Large sets frequently included both side chairs and open-armed carver chairs intended for the ends of the table.

Authentic nineteenth-century dining chairs were framed in solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural webbing, coiled steel springs, animal hair padding, and full-grain leather secured with brass upholstery studs.

Look for hand-turned legs, original brass castors, mortise and tenon joints, and subtle irregularities in hand-carved details. Period furniture displays natural oxidisation and patina on the timber surfaces and frame underside.

Pair a substantial set of antique oak chairs with a clean-lined modern timber dining table or a rustic scrubbed oak table. The warm tones of the oak and deep leather hues add texture and historical contrast to minimalist or contemporary spaces.

Clean the leather surfaces periodically with a soft cloth and apply a dedicated leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking. Keep timber frames dust-free and polish with clear beeswax, ensuring the chairs are positioned away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
