Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Irish library armchair stands within the Georgian style, constructed from warm brown mahogany and upholstered in unbleached calico fabric. The deep seat, padded backrest, and padded armrests are fitted with plain off-white calico lining, showing exposed raw edges at the top of the backrest and wear on the left armrest. The dark timber frame displays extensive carved ornamentation, including a Vitruvian scroll and gadrooned frieze beneath the seat, cabriole legs with claw and ball feet, and scrolled armrests terminating in carved eagle heads. The chair suits a traditional study, a gentleman's library, or a formal living room seating arrangement for daily use.

Irish library chairs from this era are recognized for their robust proportions, dense dark mahogany timber, and expressive relief carvings such as shell motifs, acanthus leaves, and prominent claw and ball feet.

These pieces were primarily crafted using solid mahogany frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, jute webbing, hair stuffing, and cotton calico lining prior to final fabric upholstery.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, asymmetrical hand-carved details, natural shrinkage marks along timber joins, and original patination on unexposed surfaces.

Pairing a deeply carved mahogany chair with contemporary neutral upholstery creates a statement focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship and modern minimalist interior design.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the mahogany finish, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and textile deterioration.
