Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this Turned Wood Rocking Chair to the 1900s.
Circa 1880–1900 | Late Victorian
Maintaining its natural patina on arms and foot rest

The chair features a generously proportioned upholstered seat and tall padded backrest, complete with a separate upholstered headrest. The upholstery is finished in a charming red and cream French toile de Jouy fabric, depicting traditional pastoral scenes.

The shaped arms incorporate turned wooden handrests with upholstered pads, supported by a series of decorative spindles. The chair retains a rich, dark patina, with lighter wear to the handrests and lower stretchers, adding to its character.

Of particular interest is the unusual rocking mechanism, with the chair mounted upon curved rockers supported by a separate stationary base, allowing a gentle rocking movement.
A wonderfully decorative and comfortable-looking example of late Victorian furniture, equally suited to a country house drawing room, library, bedroom or fireside setting.
