Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Victorian childs rocking chair originates from the English Country House tradition, constructed from fruitwood with a warm brown finish. The piece takes the form of a platform rocker base supporting a bobbin frame with turned spindle arms, decorative finials, and exposed wear on the wooden rockers. Upholstery consists of orange and pink checked fabric padding the backrest and seat, finished with a braided border along the upper back. Practical dimensions measure 65 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Placement suits traditional interiors, nursery spaces, or living areas as a decorative antique seat or collector display piece. The compact scale accommodates smaller spaces, while the sturdy wood frame provides functional antique seating or a display surface for decorative items. Construction details combine traditional joinery with visible patina accumulated across the century.

FAQs

Introduced during the late nineteenth century, platform rocking chairs feature a seat mechanism mounted on a stationary base using springs, preventing the chair from moving across the floor while rocking.

Craftsmen commonly utilised native hardwoods such as fruitwood, beech, or oak, combined with steel coil springs for the rocking mechanism and woven textile upholstery.

Authentic period examples typically exhibit hand-turned wooden spindles, natural surface patination around the armrests, traditional joinery techniques, and era-appropriate spring assemblies.

Position the piece in a nursery corner, alongside a hearth, or as a decorative accent in a living area to introduce historic character and timber texture.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly once or twice a year, and position the piece away from direct radiator heat to avoid timber shrinkage.
