Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid nineteenth century Adam style wall mirror adopts a neoclassical design with a rectangular form. Constructed from dark brown mahogany with glass panels, the piece exhibits a reeded outer frame and decorative carved rosettes positioned on internal sectioning lines, alongside marginal mirror panels. The frame displays turned spindle elements and fine mouldings across its polished timber surface. Measuring 79 cm high, 107 cm wide and 3 cm deep, the dimensions provide a substantial presence for display within a residential setting. Ideal for placement above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway or living space, the mirror reflects light effectively while introducing period character to an interior. The woodwork shows a warm timber tone with natural grain variations throughout the structure.

FAQs

Adam style mirrors are defined by Neoclassical design principles, drawing inspiration from classical Roman and Greek architecture, and feature balanced symmetry, refined reeding, and delicate motifs such as carved rosettes.

19th-century mirrors typically utilised solid or veneered hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for framing, alongside mercury or silvered glass plates and solid pine or oak backing panels.

Authentic period pieces often display hand-carved decorative detailing, original wooden backboards secured with old nails, subtle foxing or silvering deterioration on the glass plate, and period-correct joinery.

A mahogany wall mirror can be positioned above a dining room sideboard or living room mantelpiece to anchor the space and reflect natural light across contemporary furnishings.

Dust the timber framing regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally, taking care to clean the glass separately to prevent moisture from penetrating the wooden border.
