Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Regency wall mirror is constructed from wood with a dark brown painted finish, glass panels, and mirror glass. The rectangular frame holds a projected cornice at the top, stencilled foliate borders in orange along the side and bottom framing elements, original brass florets at each lower corner, and two reverse-painted glass panels depicting rural landscape scenes with a castle at the top and a pastoral landscape below. The central mirror plate exhibits heavy foxing and age spots, and the piece retains its original backboards and paper makers label. Measuring 55 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 3 cm in depth, this compact wall hanging suits narrow wall spaces in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. It brings period character to an interior when hung securely at eye level.

FAQs

Early 19th-century pier mirrors typically feature architectural frames with decorative top sections, often incorporating reverse-painted glass panels depicting rural scenes alongside stencilled or gilded timber borders.

These mirrors were constructed from solid wood frames decorated with paint or gilt stencilling, paired with mercury-silvered glass and reverse-painted glass panels.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut backing boards, natural age-related foxing on the mirror plate, hand-applied stencilled decoration showing gentle wear, and period maker labels on the reverse.

Position the mirror on a narrow wall space, above a console table, or within an alcove to create a focal point that contrasts with modern neutral walls.

Dust the frame with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners or water which can damage delicate paintwork, gilt stencilling, or glass backings.
