This 19th century neo-classical cello chair has a dark brown mahogany frame with a strong Kentian influence and elaborate carved scrollwork. The backrest is cello-shaped with carved relief motifs and a rectangular top rail, and the thick upholstered seat is covered in patterned fabric with beige and brown tones. Sabre legs with scale pattern relief support the structure, and detailed classical carvings adorn the seat rail. Standing 90 cm high, the chair functions well as a distinctive occasional seat in a gentleman's library, study or reception room. Its sturdy construction and sculptural form provide both a practical seating option and a striking decorative accent for period interiors.

A Kentian cello chair is an 18th-century style side chair influenced by the architectural designs of William Kent, characterised by heavy carving, classical motifs, and a backrest contoured in the silhouette of a cello or lyre.

Chairs from this period were predominantly crafted from solid dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut to support intricate low-relief carving, frequently paired with woven fabric or needlepoint upholstery.

Authentic period chairs feature hand-carved detailing with subtle variations, period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, natural age oxidation on the underside of the timber, and historical wear patterns along the legs and seat frame.

An architectural side chair functions effectively as a sculptural accent piece when positioned in a quiet hallway, beside an entryway console, or alongside contemporary minimalist furnishings to create visual contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth and clean recessed carvings with a soft-bristled brush. Apply a high-quality beeswax paste polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and avoid placing the item near direct heat sources or damp areas.
