The piece displays a slanted front with double doors above two lower drawers, brass keyhole escutcheons, and visible grain patterns across the timber surfaces. The cabinet measures 32.5 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. The internal compartments accommodate small stationery items, and the lower drawer secures additional supplies.

FAQs

A Victorian stationery cabinet is a desktop storage unit designed during the nineteenth century to store writing paper, envelopes, inkwells, and correspondence accessories. These pieces typically feature sloping fronts with double doors that open to reveal partitioned internal compartments and a lower drawer.

These cabinets were crafted from hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or coromandel, often featuring brass strapwork, polished metal mounts, and silk or leather-lined interiors.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-appropriate brass hardware with original keyhole escutcheons, and natural wood oxidation consistent with age.

A stationery cabinet can be placed on a contemporary office desk, library table, or hallway console to store mail, stationery, or small personal items.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish along the wood grain, taking care to keep polish off the brass fittings to preserve the historical patina.
