Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four 18th-century Irish ladderback dining chairs exemplifies the Georgian style, rendered in a dark brown hardwood and oak. Each chair stands on square legs joined by an H-stretcher base and incorporates slotted horizontal back rails. The brown timber surfaces display natural ageing and visible grain texture. The drop-in seat cushions are upholstered in a patterned fabric featuring red and white stripes. The chairs measure 95 cm high, 55.5 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. They suit placement around a dining table in a traditional dining room or country house interior, offering both sturdy seating and period character.

FAQs

Irish country seating from the 18th century frequently combines robust provincial craftsmanship with traditional Georgian proportions, often featuring distinctive slotted ladderback rails and sturdy square stretchers.

Dense native hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or fruitwood were predominantly selected for construction, joined using traditional mortise and tenon wood joinery for stability.

Authentic period pieces generally display hand-cut joinery, minor irregularities across structural elements, genuine surface wear around the stretchers, and historical patination in unexposed areas.

Pair dark timber side chairs with contemporary stone or scrubbed wood dining tables to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually, avoiding direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber movement.
