Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of eight Victorian country kitchen farmhouse dining chairs consists of six side chairs and two carvers with arms. Constructed from elm, beech, and oak, the set has a waxed warm brown finish that highlights the natural grain of the timber. The design incorporates spindle backrests, curved top rails, rounded penny seats that are deeply contoured for comfort, and ring-turned legs with sturdy stretchers. Each chair displays visible natural patina and light surface wear consistent with age and regular domestic use. The carvers measure 89 cm high by 58 cm wide, while the side chairs stand 81 cm high with a seat height of 46 cm, a seat width of 41 cm, and a seat depth of 38 cm. Practical and robust, these chairs suit everyday family dining around a large kitchen table, a breakfast nook, or a rustic dining room. They work well in both traditional country houses and eclectic modern interiors seeking character and warmth. The two armchairs fit comfortably at the heads of a dining table, while the six side chairs line the sides, offering ample and comfortable seating for family meals and gatherings.

FAQs

Traditional English country farmhouse chairs, including Windsor and spindle-back designs, originated in the 18th and 19th centuries as sturdy, functional seating for rural homes. They typically feature solid wooden seats, turned legs, and backrests crafted from vertical spindles secured into a top rail.

These chairs were commonly constructed using regional English hardwoods such as elm, beech, oak, and ash. Elm was frequently selected for the contoured seats due to its resistance to splitting, while beech and ash were preferred for turned legs and steam-bent spindles.

Authentic Victorian country chairs feature wedged joints, hand-turned leg details, and signs of natural wear across the timber surfaces. Look for contoured seats, varying patina across the timber grain, and minor structural inconsistencies characteristic of historical workshop assembly.

Pair a set of antique wooden kitchen chairs with a modern minimalist oak dining table or a polished concrete surface to create a balanced material contrast. Combining traditional turned-timber seating with clean contemporary architecture adds texture and historical warmth to dining spaces.

Preserve the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the timber from drying, shrinking, or loosening at the joints.
