FAQs

Rush seating has been utilised for centuries in British country furniture, providing an accessible and durable alternative to solid wood or upholstered seats by employing woven marsh plants.

These chairs typically feature frames constructed from native hardwoods such as elm, ash, or oak, combined with woven natural rush for the seating panels.

Authentication relies on examining tool marks, timber shrinkage, the tightness and patina of the woven rush, and traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon construction.

They can be integrated around a rustic timber dining table to introduce organic texture and historical contrast into a modern scheme.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the rush from drying out and snapping, and clean the wooden frames periodically with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes.
