Description

A stylish and very well made pair of Swedish Art Deco armchairs in satin birch. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1930’s.

The quality is excellent, they are well sprung and very comfortable. The sweeping satin birch arms curve beautifully down to the front legs, giving them a sleek and curvaceous look. The satin birch has a lovely colour tone and wonderful grain patterns.

We have had the frames stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and they have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Art Deco, which emerged strongly in the 1920s and 1930s, combines classical restraint with streamlined modernism, frequently utilising pale native timbers like birch alongside luxurious upholstery.

Authentic period pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, often veneered in figured timbers such as satin birch or walnut, paired with traditional sprung interiors and quality textile or leather upholstery.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction methods, joinery, timber patination, and interior webbing or springs, alongside historical maker marks or stylistic adherence to Scandinavian modernist proportions.

These chairs work well as statement accent pieces in contemporary living rooms, pairing effectively with minimalist architectural backdrops, clean lines, and neutral textiles to highlight their sculptural wooden frames.

Protect wooden surfaces from direct sunlight and excessive humidity swings, dusting regularly with a soft cloth and occasionally feeding the timber with high-quality microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
