Description

A stunning pair of Swedish Art Deco armchairs in satin birch. These were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1930’s period.

They are beautifully made with a gorgeous design. These have lovely curves that run all the way from the backs, down the arms and to the feet. They are supportive, fully sprung and very comfortable, they look amazing from all angles.

The satin birch frames have been re-polished and are in great condition for their age, with just some incredibly minor historical wear beneath the polish. We have also had these newly upholstered in our cream cotton fabric. The overall condition is excellent.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Art Deco, often developed during the 1920s and 1930s, combines functionalism with elegant proportions, frequently utilising blonde woods like birch and minimalist geometric forms.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, steam-bent wood elements, traditional coil spring upholstery, and pale timberveneers such as satin birch.

Authentication involves examining construction methods, checking for makers marks or designer stamps, and verifying period-correct textiles and timber finishes like polished birch.

They work well as statement pieces in contemporary living spaces, contrasting against neutral palettes or complementing minimalist architecture with their sculptural forms.

Preservation requires keeping wooden frames away from direct sunlight and heat sources, using gentle cleaning methods for textiles, and periodically feeding the timber with appropriate wax or polish.
