A wainscot chair is an early form of wooden armchair, typically constructed from oak during the late 16th and 17th centuries, taking its name from fine grade oak panels.

These pieces are predominantly crafted from solid English oak, utilizing traditional mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and fielded or panelled timber backs.

Authenticity is determined by hand-tool marks, traditional joinery methods, natural timber oxidisation, wear patterns consistent with age, and period-specific moulding profiles.

Pairing the architectural weight of early oak furniture with minimalist surroundings or contemporary textiles creates a striking focal point that balances historic character with modern living.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels away from direct heat sources, and periodically treat the wood with traditional beeswax to nourish the historic surface.
