Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular wood-working traditions where spindles were inserted directly into a solid wooden seat.

They are traditionally constructed using a combination of timbers, often featuring a bentwood bow or back, an elm or yew seat, and ash or beech for the spindles and legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved saddle seats, wedged tenon joints passing through the seat, tool marks from adzes, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

A Windsor chair adds warmth and historical contrast when paired with minimalist dining tables, or functions as a standalone accent piece in a contemporary study.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, occasionally nourishing the surface with natural beeswax.
