This restored 1910s mahogany countertop shop display cabinet originates from the Victorian commercial era. Constructed with a dark brown mahogany frame and oak-veneered interior boards, the unit measures 21 cm high, 91 cm wide and 46 cm deep. The design incorporates a curved clear glass top, brass campaign-style drawer pulls at the rear, and a prominent lower white glass panel across the front decorated with hand-gilded and reverse-painted lettering in gold and black, reading "HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES AND PREPARATIONS. PATENT MEDICINES." between horizontal lines. Positioned on a sideboard top in a home today, this display cabinet provides practical storage in four rear drawers alongside a glazed display area. The traditional verre églomisé sign and polished wooden framework suit a gentleman's library, study or living room setting for exhibiting small collectibles, curiosities or ephemera while maintaining period character.

These cabinets were introduced in 19th-century retail premises, particularly pharmacies and haberdashers, to securely showcase small or valuable merchandise to customers across a shop counter.

They were predominantly constructed using polished hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, fitted with curved or flat glass panels and often featuring gilt lettered glass signage or brass fittings.

Original pieces feature hand-joined timber frames, period glass showing slight distortions, brass hardware, and authentic hand-painted or reverse-painted glass lettering.

It can be placed atop a sideboard, kitchen island, or console table to store small collectibles, jewellery, or curate a themed tabletop arrangement.

Clean the timber frame using natural beeswax polish and soft dry cloths, while cleaning glass panels with ammonia-free products to prevent damage to surrounding painted lettering.
