A classic and excellent example of early 1920s shopfitting, this countertop display cabinet is made from solid oak with a warm, rich tone and has been polished to highlight the natural grain of the wood. It is fitted with large glass panels to the front, sides, and top, allowing the contents inside to be viewed clearly from multiple angles.
The single door opens to reveal the interior and retains its original working lock along with a brass ring handle. The interior features a dark display base, creating a strong contrast with the surrounding glass and making it ideal for presenting jewellery, small collectibles, or other retail merchandise.
Pieces of this type were commonly used in drapers, jewellers, and general stores during the early 20th century, designed to sit on a shop counter where customers could easily view the contents while keeping items secure. The glass appears to be original and shows light surface scratches to the top consistent with age and use.
