Late 19th and early 20th-century dressing table mirrors frequently featured elaborate metalwork, incorporating hand-hammered repousse techniques, floral motifs, and cherub masks set within heavily embossed frames.

Authentic period pieces were constructed with a solid sterling silver overlay or front mount, typically supported by a weighted wooden back panel upholstered in fabric, leather, or velvet, and held by a hinged metal easel stand.

Authenticity is verified by locating British hallmark stamps, which indicate the assay office, silver standard (such as .925 sterling), and date letter, alongside characteristic signs of age such as silver oxidisation and foxing on the original bevelled glass.

This piece can be displayed on a modern dresser, console table, or mantelpiece to introduce a reflective metallic accent that contrasts against minimalist architectural surfaces.

Silver frames should be cleaned sparingly with a specialist non-abrasive microfibre cloth and a mild silver polish, taking care to avoid contact with the glass mirror plate and any fabric backing.
