Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. Secure Transit

FAQs

Carved giltwood mirrors gained prominence during the Baroque and Rococo periods in Europe, particularly in Italy and France, where master artisans created elaborate frames to reflect light and signify wealth.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from softwoods such as pine or lime, carved by hand, and finished with a layer of gesso before being gilded with genuine gold leaf.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-carved details, the presence of older gesso and bole layers beneath the gold leaf, and historical characteristics of the glass plate such as foxing or hand-bevelling.

Pairing an ornate gilded mirror with clean-lined modern furniture creates a striking focal point, adding warmth, texture, and a sense of history to minimalist spaces.

Giltwood surfaces are extremely delicate and should only be dusted lightly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding all water, solvents, and chemical cleaning agents.
