Convex mirrors, often called bullseye or bankers mirrors, date back to medieval times and gained renewed popularity during the Regency and Edwardian eras for their ability to capture a wide-angle reflection of a room.

Edwardian frames are typically crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, featuring steam-bent or lathe-turned wooden elements, paired with silvered curved glass plates secured within a rebated back.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate joinery, oxidisation spots on the original mirror plate, age-related patina on the timber frame, and traditional backing boards rather than modern fixings.

A convex mirror works effectively as a focal point above a fireplace or console table, reflecting natural light and adding depth to contemporary spaces by contrasting its traditional frame with clean-lined modern furniture.

Clean the frame using a soft dry cloth and natural beeswax to nourish the wood, and use a minimal amount of alcohol-free cleaner on the glass, ensuring liquid does not seep behind the edge of the mirror plate.
