Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A stickback armchair is a traditional form of seating characterised by slender wooden spindles fitted into a solid contoured wooden seat and a steam-bent crest rail, originating in rural workshops during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These chairs were traditionally constructed using a combination of native timbers, frequently featuring elm for the strong, resilient seats, ash or beech for the bentwood components and spindles, and fruitwood or pine for the turned legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-turned components with minor variations, wedged tenon joints passing through the seat, natural wear patterns, and a dry patina rather than modern synthetic finishes.

This piece can be styled by pairing it with a contemporary dining table to create an eclectic contrast, or placed in a living space as an accent seat alongside a minimalist side table to highlight its sculptural form.

Preserve the timber by keeping the chair away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent splitting, and maintain the finish by occasionally applying natural beeswax rather than silicone-based polishes.
