A 19th-century French Chateau style girandole pier mirror made from giltwood, gesso, glass, and brass, finished in a warm gold colour. The tall rectangular frame includes an arched inner glass plate, a cornice top with stylised rosette blocks, egg and dart mouldings, beaded sconces with branch and leaf decorated supports, and a rope and tassel motif to the base, accompanied by four attached double-branch candle sconces and original wood backing with three wall mountings. The piece measures 103 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 16 cm deep. This wall mirror hangs in a narrow wall space in a home today, positioned above a console table or in an entryway to reflect natural light while holding lit candles in its brass sconces. The antique piece suits traditional reception rooms, hallways, or dining spaces as a functional light source and decorative wall accent.

A girandole pier mirror is a tall, narrow wall mirror featuring attached candle branches or sconces, historically designed to sit on the pier wall between windows to reflect both natural light and ambient candlelight.

These mirrors were typically crafted with carved pine or lime wood frames coated in gesso and gold leaf gilding, fitted with cast brass or iron candle branches and mercury-backed mirrored glass plates.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-carved wood beneath layers of white gesso, natural gilding wear revealing red or grey clay bole beneath, square-headed iron fixings on the reverse, and minor desilveration in the glass.

Position the mirror on a narrow wall space between windows, above a console table, or in an entryway to introduce classical architectural structure and bounce natural light throughout the room.

Dust the gilded frame lightly using a soft, dry feather duster, avoiding water or liquid cleaners which dissolve gesso and gold leaf, and clean the mirror glass separately using a slightly dampened microfibre cloth.
