This George III toilet mirror dates from around 1800 and embodies the refined craftsmanship of the period. Constructed from warm amber satinwood, the piece presents a striking figured veneer with distinct horizontal grain patterns on the plinth base and vertical flows along the upright supports. The vanity mirror features a shaped arched frame enclosing a bevelled glass plate, flanked by small turned wooden knobs that secure the pivoting mechanism. The stepped base incorporates a central curved section and contains two small drawers fitted with circular brass drop handles and decorative backplates, raised on small brass ball feet. Measuring 68 cm high, 51 cm wide and 23 cm deep, the mirror functions well atop a sideboard, chest of drawers or dressing table in a bedroom or hallway. The warm timber tones suit both traditional and contemporary interiors, providing a practical surface for grooming accessories while adding period character to a room.

A George III toilet mirror is a tabletop dressing mirror produced during the reign of King George III in Britain, characterized by a swivelling glass plate mounted above a base with drawers for grooming accessories.

These mirrors were typically built from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak and inlaid or veneered with woods like satinwood, rosewood, and ebony, complemented by cast brass handles and silvered glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on small drawers, original brassware displaying natural oxidisation, bevelled plate glass showing mild foxing, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Position the piece atop a bedroom chest of drawers, a hallway sideboard, or a dressing vanity to introduce warm wood tones and classical historical proportions into modern living spaces.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly along the grain, while cleaning the mirror glass using a slightly dampened lint-free cloth without touching the wood.
