Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, characterised by a distinctive construction where the legs and back spindles are socketed directly into a solid carved wooden seat.

Traditional Windsor chairs typically utilise a combination of timbers, such as an elm seat for strength against splitting, ash or oak for the bent parts and legs, and beech or fruitwood for the spindles.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery methods, such as wedged through-tenons, hand-turned components with minor irregularities, and natural surface wear and patination indicative of age.

These chairs provide textural contrast when paired with a sleek modern dining table or function as standalone accent pieces in a living room to introduce historic character and warmth.

Preserve antique wood by keeping chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically treat the surface with a microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without damaging the patina.
