A superb antique Victorian leather armchair, made in England and dating from around the 1890-1900 period.

It is of outstanding quality, its beautifully made and is well sprung. The frame is generous in proportions, and this is very comfortable to relax in. The leather has an absolutely gorgeous colour tone and patina, the frame sits on solid mahogany bun feet.

We have had the leather hand coloured and enhanced by our leather restorer, it is in excellent overall condition for its age. There are just some very old minor marks and historical wear here and there, adding to the overall charm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, characterised by revivalism, heavy construction, elaborate ornamentation, and dark woods.

These armchairs typically feature solid hardwood frames, horsehair stuffing, coil springs, and hand-dyed cattle leather secured with brass upholstery tacks.

Authenticity is identified through hand-tied coil springs, traditional veg-tanned leather showing natural patination, hand-carved wooden feet, and period-appropriate joinery techniques.

Pairing this item with minimalist modern decor, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich texture of the leather.

Preservation requires keeping the leather away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying specialised natural leather balms to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking.
