Regency style spans the early 19th century, drawing heavily on classical Greco-Roman motifs, clean architectural lines, and often incorporates gilded wood, ebonised details, and convex or oval plates.

These frames were typically constructed from carved softwoods or hardwoods like pine and gesso, finished with gold leaf or metal gilding, often featuring original hand-silvered glass mirror plates.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut joinery, genuine mercury or early silver nitrate oxidisation on the mirror plate, and layers of historical gesso beneath the gilding.

Such pieces act as striking focal points; hang them above a mantelpiece, in a narrow hallway to bounce light, or contrast the ornate historical frame against minimalist contemporary walls.

Use a dry microfibre cloth to gently remove dust from the frame, and apply distilled water or a mild pH-neutral cleaner sparingly to the glass, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the fragile antique silvering.
