FAQs

The Louis Philippe style emerged in France during the mid-19th century, characterised by clean lines, understated elegance, and minimal ornamentation compared to earlier extravagant periods.

Faux bois, meaning false wood, involves skilled artisans painting or moulding a substrate to meticulously imitate the grain, knots, and colouration of precious timbers.

Authentic pieces often feature old mercury glass with characteristic oxidation spots, hand-carved or shaped wooden frames, and traditional pegged or joined construction at the corners.

Hanging an antique mirror above a contemporary sideboard or minimalist fireplace creates a striking focal point by contrasting historical texture with clean, modern lines.

Clean the glass gently using a soft microfibre cloth and a mild, ammonia-free solution, ensuring moisture does not seep behind the frame or into the silvered backing.
