A Small Georgian Knife Box

18th century
Description

A Georgian mahogany knife box with six original knife slots the remainder of the interior converted for stationery.Of typical form but with silver lock escutcheon and ring pull to the lid. The interior boxwood and ebony inlaid together with an inlaid starburst to the inside of the lid. The exterior edges have chevron stringing almost all of which is still intact. The Georgian key is worn thus it is best not to operate the lock. Some old repairs but overall in good condition. Excellent colour and patina. Circa 1790.
