Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Regency convex mirror provides a striking decorative focal point with its traditional circular design. Constructed from giltwood and glass, the piece displays a gleaming gold finish complemented by a dark ebonised inner slip surrounding the convex glass plate. The frame incorporates elaborate carved details at both top and bottom, including prominent acanthus leaf cresting and intricate ball moulding running the full circumference. Visible signs of age and handling include losses to the gesso surface alongside areas of overpainting. The measurements are 67 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Placed in a modern interior, this wall mirror functions effectively above the mantel in a living room, drawing room, or hallway, where the curved reflective glass helps to bounce light around the space while adding a sense of historical presence to the wall.

FAQs

Popularised during the early 19th century in Britain, a Regency convex mirror features a curved glass pane framed in carved giltwood, often fitted with an ebonised interior slip to reflect light throughout a room.

These mirrors were constructed using pine or lime wood bases decorated with carved gesso, covered in gold leaf gilding, and fitted with hand-blown curved glass and ebonised wooden inner rims.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-carved wood beneath gilded gesso, glass showing natural age spots or foxing, and heavy timber backings secured with square-headed nails or wooden pegs.

A convex mirror works as a focal point above a fireplace mantelpiece, in an entryway, or positioned within a gallery wall to add depth and reflect natural light across living spaces.

Dust the gilded frame gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding liquid cleaners, chemical sprays, or damp cloths that could lift the fragile gold leaf and gesso.
