Description

An 'excellent and rare bentwood chair by michael thonet originator of 'the bentwood chair' circa 1910. This german-austrian cabinet maker, (2nd july 1796-3rd march 1871) was the inventor of the bentwood chair. The company is still in existance many generations on.

This armchair was used by the resident 'insect setter' at watkins and doncaster's premises in the strand, london. It came to me from robin ford of messrs watkins and doncaster in the 1980's. The chair carries the makers marks and label as can be seen from the images.

All questons welcome.

A rare and interesting piece from a good source by a celebrated maker.
